I thought it would be too kiss-assy to post this on the blog after sending it, but I wanted it on here somewhere, so I thought I would stash it here...

Randi,

Totally love you. KPOJ here in Portland is, for better or worse, my lifeline these days, and I love your show.

I heard your caller tonight about the Plain Dealer editorial and thought that you might be interested in a post I made on my blog, Democracy In Distress (http://democracyindistress.blogspot.com), after reading this stellar piece of journalism this morning.

The post’s title was “Investigating the 2004 Vote in Ohio: Undermining Public Confidence in the Electoral System Itself,” and the link is http://democracyindistress.blogspot.com/....e-in-ohio.html, if you would like to go there directly.

Essentially, looking at what happened in November, when they accuse us of trying to undermine the electoral system, my response is… They caught us! Undermining confidence in the system itself!

Seriously, this is exactly what we are trying to do. We are casting our no confidence vote in the system over the last two elections. They seem to think that we are nothing but sore losers, even though most people who are lobbying for investigations into the 2004 election do believe that Bush probably did win this election. The concern is not over the results. The concern is with how these results were achieved.

My major concern, obviously, is with the electronic, paperless, accountability-free voting machines. It really got to me when the Plain Dealer editorial staff actually wrote, “And rather than retreating from electronic voting machines, the state needs to find a secure system and back it up with a paper record.”
It disturbs me that such an obvious problem with such an obvious solution seemed to be labeled such a non-issue before the election. But now the right wing of the media admits that this is a problem?

It is almost like they decided that they could probably get away with it once, so they went for it. The truly sad thing about this is that they probably won the election without having to resort to high crimes and felonies, but it appears that they went there anyway. Now we are left with a large percentage of Americans who have no confidence in the electoral system trying to undermine the rest of the voters’ confidence in the system as well. Because it is broken; because it needs to be fixed…
Anyway, like I said, I love your show. I started this website a couple days after the election and whenever I get discouraged about my efforts, I listen to your show and get fired up once again.

I heard you ask a caller recently what they were personally doing about the election issues… You are so correct, everyone who is upset needs to act. Everyone who is upset needs to get involved. For me, this is how I am launching myself into the breach.

And I keep my sanity with the thought that, if I stick to this effort, I may pull a few people through with me.

We are in real danger of losing our Democracy. It is time to use our voices. They can be silenced so easily if we do not speak out.

Sorry for the long e-mail.

Keep on rockin’ the free world,
A. F. Litt
